Terry Gilliam, noted director of critically praised fantasy/sci-fi films that are just as likely, alas, to be box office duds, found success with this feature re-imagining of Chris Marker’s famous sci-fi short La Jetee. Along with The Fisher King, this is probably still Gilliam’s biggest mainstream hit to date—with assist from high profile stars Bruce Willis, Madeline Stowe and Brad Pitt—but that shouldn’t discount the film’s edge or creativity. As recent time traveling films go, this remains one of the more interesting.
