8 Great: Paul Rudd's Most Offbeat Roles

The Locusts, Earl (1997)

Paul Rudd’s next offbeat gig was in a little-known movie called The Locusts, thrusting the rising comedic star into the role of rancher. As Earl, he’s thick-bespectacled, dusty, and completely retro. We’re talking tight white tees kissed by the dust of the ranch on the job, crisp shirts and 1950s charm when he’s chilling with the ladies. Though there are other roles that take the actor to more visual extremes, Earl is one of Rudd’s most visually distinctive roles because he seems to fade away in the old-school clothing as he sports a Southern drawl and helps drifter Vince Vaughn find work.
