Gebo and the Shadow

Directed by Manoel de Oliveira

Much is made over the fact that legendary Portuguese director Manoel de Oliveira is 103 years old and still making great films, but maybe that’s because the dude is 103 years old and still making great films. I mean, I’m 27, and I still consider putting on pants to be the benchmark of a productive day. But my man Manoel is back at it with Gebo and the Shadow, a tender drama about an aging accountant who locates his missing step-son, but is reluctant to tell his wife that her child has become a beggar. Here’s hoping that Gebo and the Shadow is further proof that age is just a (crazy big) number.
