Spring Breakers
Directed by: Harmony Korine
One of the most seemingly avoidable TIFF selections has become one of the most popular. It seems that Korine has evolved out of his early cinema trash and offered a visually impressive (believe it or not) spring break story of girls who rob a restaurant for party money, get arrested, and then get bailed out and messed up in the world of a drug/arms dealer (James Franco). This is the film young actresses like Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, and Glee's Heather Morris are using to gain them anti-Disney cred, without shackling themselves to a forgettable and superlative feature that accomplishes nothing.
