The Best and Worst Hollywood Debuts by Asian Directors

Best: John Woo (Hard Target)

Whoever out there wants to tell me Hard Target is not a good film, I hate to admit it but you're right. Hard Target is not a good film, it's a great one. Jean-Claude Van Damme punches a snake. Wilford Brimely fires a shotgun from atop a wild stallion. Lance Henriksen accidentally catches himself on fire. I'm not seeing why this isn't the greatest movie ever.

John Woo came to America after basically conquering the action genre worldwide with films like Hard Boiled and The Killer. While certainly not up to those standards, Hard Target remains the very best of Woo's American films, depending on how you feel about Face/Off.
