The Outer Limits
The most obvious pick is The Outer Limits, created by Leslie Stevens, which ran on ABC for 49 episodes, starting in the fall of 1963. Joseph Stefano (Psycho) served as showrunner for the first season, which had its style cramped by the network’s insistence on monsters appearing as early and often as possible, yet still managed to create many indelible stories. MGM announced a new version in 2010, to be written by Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton (Feast 1-3, Saw IV-VII), but that particular version seems to be on the back burner. If their approach is a good one, it needs to be bumped up, pronto.
