The 15 Must-See Movies at the 2012 New York Film Festival

Tabu (dir. Miguel Gomes)

Full disclosure: I have practically no idea what the hell Tabu is about (and I have a feeling that actually watching the movie isn’t going to help such matters, all that much), but after the rapturous reception it received in Berlin last February and the swoon-inducing trailer that’s been prepared for NYFF, I absolutely can’t wait to see what’s going on in Miguel Gomes delirious monochrome fever dream of a film. Supposedly nostalgic but unnervingly urgent, cheesy but deadly serious, Tabu -- which I think has something to do with alligators and old people? -- exists like a question that I can’t wait to try to answer.
