Willis O’Brien had already been animating dinosaurs for more than 10 years when his first great success, The Lost World, based on a novel by Arthur Conan Doyle and directed by Harry Hoyt, was released. The film follows a group of explorers and their attempt to rescue a fellow adventurer from a plateau in Venezuela where dinosaurs still roam. It is a fearsome world where all animals are in a constant battle for life and death.
