Best Space Mission Movies: From Planetary Demolition Crews to Hellish Black Holes and Beyond

Granted, Lockout is only a few months old at this point, but this ridiculous flick that will surely play best as a late night cable watch was destined to be on a list like this. Sure, films like Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey and Georges Méliès' A Trip to the Moon gave more to the world of cinema in single frames than Lockout does throughout its entire runtime, but they also don't have a plot that involves a loose cannon CIA agent forced to blast off to an orbiting maximum security penitentiary to rescue the President's daughter. Sorry Kubrick and Méliès, but space missions just don't get better than breaking into space prison.
