Mediocre Movies That Produced Great Sequels-- Will 'Clash of the Titans' Soon Join the List?

The first two Harry Potter films by Chris Columbus were lovely translations of the beloved J.K. Rowling books to screen but they were geared to the youthful innocence of the audiences reading the books and glossed over the darker themes simmering just below the surface of the stories. When director Alfonso Cuarón took over the franchise reins with Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the genuine terrifying stakes facing Harry finally came through and the film series immediately graduated into the artistic realm.
