In Tim Burton's cockeyed suburban fable, poor Edward (Johnny Depp) has been hidden away all his life, cursed to possess deadly blades instead of fingers. But when door-to-door cosmetics saleslady Peg (Dianne Weist) takes in Edward (his creator died just as he was going to give him real hands), Edward winds up falling in love with Peg's teenage daughter Kim (Winona Ryder). Despite all the reasons that their relationship shouldn't work, she learns to love him back -- even though the world clearly isn't ready for this beauty and this beast to find happiness together.
