Why hasn’t Doctor Strange scored his own movie? (The bizarre ‘70s TV movie featuring Arrested Development’s Jessica Walter as Morgan LeFay doesn’t count.) It’s not for lack of trying--everyone from Wes Craven to The Dark Knight’s David Goyer has been attached to Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme at one point or another. In 2008, no less a nerd dream duo than Guillermo del Toro and Neil Gaiman were rumored to be collaborating on a Doctor Strange film. When that fizzled, the comic book giant tapped the screenwriters of the upcoming Conan the Barbarian reboot and announced that Doctor Strange will be the first Marvel film to come from their benevolent overlords at Disney. And then…nothing. No casting news, no leaked production photos of Strange’s sidekick Wong in action. What gives, Marvel? Recently, fan interest was piqued recently when Patrick Dempsey expressed interest in the role while promoting Transformers: Dark of the Moon. As long as the ladies don’t refer to him as “Dr. McStrangey,” we’re in.
