By the time Scream 3 came around, the series was just becoming plain funny, and running out of gas. But the cameos, from Carrie Fisher to Nancy O'Dell to Jason Mewes were amusing, and some of the in-Hollywood jokes were clever. But our favorite character is Jennifer Jolie (an obvious take on Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie – the controversy that still won’t die), played by the inimitable Parker Posey. Here, she’s acting as Gale Weathers (Courtney Cox) in Stab 3 (Remember?) and in spite of disliking each other at first, touchingly, and with matched diva-tude, become friends. So when Jolie is killed, for real, and Gale sees the results, it’s actually quite sad. And a potent way to say goodbye to not only the trilogy, but the 2000’s as well. So, with that…bring on 2011.
