Red Sun (1971)

The tagline for this movie pretty much says it all. "Two desperados, one hellcat and a Samurai... the greatest fighting force the West has ever known." The storyline is pretty straight-forward. A Japanese ambassador is traveling through the Wild West by train. A group of gangsters rob the train of its gold shipment along with an ancient Japanese sword the ambassador was carrying as a present for the U.S. president. The ambassador’s bodyguard (Toshiro Mifune) goes after them along with the help of one of the gang’s leaders (Charles Bronson) who was betrayed by his pals. And then there’s Ursula Andress, better known as the very first Bond girl (Honey Ryder in Dr. No). Could this possibly be the greatest samurai-Western hybrid ever?
