Hide Your Smiling Faces
Director Daniel Patrick Carbone's debut feature left my mind churning for days -- it's a deft, gorgeous, evocative portrait of adolescent disenchantment that hits you right where you live. I was completely floored by Carbone's ability to swiftly drop the audience into a small slice of two young boys' lives, then set up white-knuckling tension between very deliberately paced, overwhelmingly beautiful shots of the natural world they inhabit. We will undoubtedly see much more from Carbone, and I personally cannot wait. -- Katie Calautti
