FULL SYNOPSIS

More appealing because of its love story, touches of comedy, and a bit of tragedy, the political message underlying this drama about 19th-century Cairo is its primary objective. Two brothers, Farag ([[Performer~P130034~Mahmoud Abdelaziz~mahmoudabdelaziz]]) and Gaber ([[Performer~P145167~Abdul-Aziz Makoun~abdulazizmakoun]]) live in an impoverished neighborhood of the capital. Farag quickly rises to the position of a neighborhood leader, but he soon favors the life of the wealthy and ends up deserting his wife and his mother to marry another woman with social position and money. Unlike his brother, Gaber is quiet and understated, and in fact, brings calumny down on his head when he decides to marry a woman who is pregnant by another man because he loves her. As popular unrest grows, it is Gaber and not his brother who comes to the fore. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi
