The preteen Pevensie kids are out to save the day again in The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. Here are eight more pint-size protagonists who get the bad guys in the end 8. The Goonies in The Goonies
What's the sitch? A ragtag group of kids hopes to thwart evil developers from turning their community into a golf course by finding hidden pirate treasure. Piece of cake except for the deadly booby-traps along the way
and the family of psychotic mobsters who are after the loot themselves.
Role models for our youth: While the Goonies have a propensity for yelling a lot and talking over each other to the point where this feels like an Altman movie for kiddies these jokers do prove themselves to be capable of great things. All of them seem to have a special skill (gadget technology, piano, yarn spinning, etc.) that rescues the group from certain doom. Why you've gotta see it: If you were a kid in the '80s, you grew up loving this, either during its original theatrical release or its subsequent video/cable afterlife. But it's for everybody kids discovering it fresh will still find it exciting and funny and breathtakingly suspenseful, and adults will enjoy seeing the kid versions of Josh Brolin, Sean Astin and Martha Plimpton. (Jeff Cohen, who plays chubby Chunk, left show biz to become a lawyer but still maintains a fervent cult following.) | |
