December Boys Grade: C-
Who's in It: Daniel Radcliffe, Lee Cormie, Christian Byers, James Fraser, Jack Thompson

The Basics: Harry Potter goes to Australia to the beach with some other kids who are not Hermione or Ron. No Hagrid. Suddenly, all the Muggles he has to live with are nice. He's having sex with some blond girl in a cave. No one's doing any magic and He Who Must Not Be Named isn't even named. This is the worst Harry Potter movie ever.

What's the Deal? OK, now for what it's really about: Four orphans go to the beach for Christmas holiday and find themselves competing for the attention of a potential pair of adoptive parents. Except for Radcliffe, that is. He's too old to care, especially when the local (and only) teenage girl is very busy trying to seduce him in her seaside lair. It's one of those coming-of-age movies (and seriously, the tagline for this thing is something like "After that summer, nothing would ever be the same again" or some stupid nonsense like that) where the biggest thing any of the orphans learn is that they really like being orphans after all.

Why Your Mom Is Going to Love It: Because it's about adorable kids and warm, fuzzy feelings. Not that movies about adorable kids and warm fuzzy feelings are bad. But if you're going to do that with your film then you could strive for it to be a little less trite and done-to-death.

What Daniel Radcliffe Will Get Out of It: Well, he already got naked on stage in Equus and made a naughty appearance on the show Extras, but he was still missing one crucial thing. So, much like Rupert Grint, who broke out and did an indie coming-of-age/virginity-loss film last year with Driving Lessons, Radcliffe finally gets to play a character who has sex.

What's Good About It: Beautiful Australian beach scenery. When all else fails, it's nice to have something pretty to look at.
