Carolina Blues Details

FULL SYNOPSIS

In his final starring film, bandleader [[Performer~P39713~Kay Kyser~kaykyser]] is cast as bandleader [[Performer~P39713~Kay Kyser~kaykyser]]. Picking up where [[Performer~P39713~Kyser~kaykyser]]'s previous RKO Radio film [[Feature~V2882~Around the World~aroundtheworld]] left off, Columbia's Carolina Blues finds Kay and his band returning to America after a worldwide USO tour. Phineas J. Carver ([[Performer~P50385~Victor Moore~victormoore]]), the woebegone "black sheep"scion of a powerful family of industrialists, poses as one of his wealthier relatives to persuade [[Performer~P39713~Kyser~kaykyser]] to perform at a defense plant. When [[Performer~P39713~Kyser~kaykyser]]'s regular vocalist [[Performer~P11305~Georgia Carroll~georgiacarroll]] quits the band to get married, Carver's talented daughter Julie ([[Performer~P49184~Ann Miller~annmiller]]) steps in as replacement. Naturally, Julie is a hit, and equally naturally, she lands [[Performer~P39713~Kyser~kaykyser]] as a husband. Outside of the expected musical numbers (which, in addtion to [[Performer~P39713~Kyser~kaykyser]]'s aggregation, feature such artists as The Step Brothers and the Nicholas Brothers) Carolina Blues is highlighted by the bravura performance of [[Performer~P50385~Victor Moore~victormoore]], who essays five roles in all. Ironically, singer [[Performer~P11305~Georgia Carroll~georgiacarroll]] did retire from show business in real life to get married-to [[Performer~P39713~Kay Kyser~kaykyser]]! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
