Arus Details

As a young actor, the man in this movie is sensitive and attractive to the woman he wants to marry. However, he quickly decides that he will never have her if he is unable to impress her father, and her father is not likely to find the prospects for his daughter being married to an actor very good. He ditches the whole thing and relentlessly pursues the task of making money, cutting a lot of corners in the process. He is so taken in by appearances that he can't bring himself to promise his new wife love and happiness but assures her that they will soon have a Mercedes. This is a sign of things to come: when he hits an old lady in the aforementioned German-made car and leaves the scene, his wife is appalled to hear of it. She urges him to do the right thing, but when he refuses, she secretly takes their life savings and uses them to pay for the woman's medical care. When he learns of it, the ex-actor is not pleased and behaves very badly, alienating not only the woman he married, but her whole family. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi
