Roddy Hughes Biography

  • Profession: Actor
  • Born: Jun 19, 1891
  • Died: Jan 1, 0001

In films from 1934, chubby Welsh character actor Roddy Hughes seemed like a Dickens character come to life. Accordingly, Hughes appeared as Short in [[Feature~V36122~The Old Curiosity Shop~theoldcuriosityshop]] (1934), Tim Linkinwatter in [[Feature~V35164~Nicholas Nickelby~nicholasnickleby]] (1947) and Old Fezziweg in the 1951 [[Performer~P65716~Alastair Sim~alastairsim]] version of A Christmas Carol. He also proved an eminently deflatable authority figure in low comedies of the "Old Mother Riley" variety. In his sixties, Roddy Hughes tended to play phlegmatic old-school-tie clubmen in such films as [[Feature~V2884~Around the World in 80 Days~aroundtheworldin80days]] (1956) and [[Feature~V109180~The Sea Wife~seawife]] (1957). ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
