Mae Whitman began acting at the ripe old age of six with a role in the 1994 alcoholism drama [[Feature~V131194~When a Man Loves a Woman~whenamanlovesawoman]]. Appearances in [[Feature~V134566~Bye Bye, Love~byebyelove]] and [[Feature~V136197~Independence Day~independenceday]] followed before multiple-episode stints on the CBS dramas [[Feature~V309465~Chicago Hope~chicagohope[tvseries]]] and [[Feature~V348008~JAG~jag[tvseries]]]. In 2001, Whitman was cast in the title role of the Fox Family Channel period sitcom State of Grace, about a pair of adolescent girls overcoming cultural differences against the backdrop of 1960s America. After that show's two-season run, she could next be seen as George Michael's milquetoast girlfriend Ann on the critically acclaimed Fox sitcom [[Feature~V296412~Arrested Development~arresteddevelopment[tvseries]]]. A starring role opposite [[Performer~P8159~Andre Braugher~andrebraugher]] on the short-lived FX series [[Feature~V349738~Thief~thief[tvseries]]] came in 2006. And in 2007, Whitman was cast in a supporting role on NBC's reimagined [[Feature~V400691~The Bionic Woman~bionicwoman[tvseries]]].
