Joseph Striker Biography

  • Profession: Actor
  • Born: Dec 23, 1898
  • Died: Feb 24, 1974

Promoted briefly in the mid-'20s as "The American Rudolph Valentino," handsome Joseph Striker, from the Broadway stage, starred as a former reform school inmate turned crusading reporter in The Steadfast Heart (1923). He was also one of the socialites in Colleen Moore's Painted People (1924), and portrayed John the Baptist in Cecil B. DeMille's gargantuan The King of Kings (1927). Never any threat to the real Valentino, and certainly not the Italian star's successor, Striker left films after his first talkie, the low-budget The House of Secrets (1929). ~ Hans J.
