Prolific French filmmaker Henri Diamant-Berger is known for his versatility and over his 60-year career has been involved with over 100 films as a director, producer or screenwriter. He has also been an active member of various film organizations. Diamant-Berger became interested in acting and films while he was studying law. He directed his first silent films when he was 20. Between 1916 and 1919, he also published and edited Film magazine and beginning in 1918 started publishing books about movies; his first was Le Cinema. Later that year he traveled to Fort Lee, New Jersey to help set up the Pathé labs; he then went back to France to set up Pathé laboratories in Vincenes and a film studio in Billancourt.
