Harry Crane Biography

  • Profession: Screenwriter
  • Born: Jan 1, 0001
  • Died: Sep 13, 1999

Prolific writer Harry Crane will probably be most known for his hand in the creation of the classic television comedy series [[Feature~V133060~The Honeymooners~thehoneymooners[tvseries]]], with the star of the show, [[Performer~P27204~Jackie Gleason~jackiegleason]]. As one would imagine, however, he did much more than that in his lifetime. He started in show business at the age of 19, doing standup comedy on the East Coast. He went straight to writing for the movies when MGM brought him out to Hollywood in 1943 to write for movies such as [[Feature~V30181~Lost in a Harem~lostinaharem]] and [[Feature~V1289~Air Raid Wardens~airraidwardens]]. From movies, he went into television. In addition to his work on various situation comedies, he also lent his hand to a number of awards show broadcasts, including the Emmys, the Oscars, and the Golden Globes. In September 1999, he died of cancer at age 85. Among his surviving relatives are granddaughters [[Performer~P26863~Melissa Gilbert~melissagilbert]] and [[Performer~P26869~Sara Gilbert~saragilbert]]. ~ Ryan Shriver, Rovi
