George Blair Biography

  • Profession: Director
  • Born: Jan 1, 1906
  • Died: Apr 20, 1970

While a staff producer at Republic Pictures in 1944, George Blair tried his hand at directing with the spoofish crime drama [[Feature~V110149~Silent Partner~silentpartner]]. Blair liked the experience and remained a Republic director until the studio shut down in 1959. While his B-pictures were breezy, enjoyable efforts, Blair tended to be ponderous when handed an A-assignment like [[Performer~P108826~Mickey Rooney~mickeyrooney]]'s [[Feature~V114747~Twinkle in God's Eye~thetwinkleingodseye]] (1955). Outside of Republic, Blair was the guiding hand behind such programmers as the [[Performer~P120738~Bowery Boys~boweryboys]]' [[Feature~V111398~Spook Chasers~spookchasers]] (1957) and the gimmicky melodrama [[Feature~V95964~The Hypnotic Eye~thehypnoticeye]] (1960). George Blair also directed his share of episodic television, helming episodes of series ranging from Superman to [[Feature~V175074~Hogan's Heroes~hogansheroes[tvseries]]], as well as a brace of TV pilots for Indian actor [[Performer~P62514~Sabu~sabu]]. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
