Frederic Rossif was known for making compilation films that recorded some of the most important historical events in mid-20th century Europe. He started out with the Cinémathèque Française. During the '50s, he was a television director. Among his best-known work is his look at the Spanish Civil War in [[Feature~V129563~To Die in Madrid~todieinmadrid]] (1962) and [[Feature~V173320~Revolution d'Octobre~revolutiondoctobre]] (1967), a look at the Russian Revolution that contained footage from Vertov's 1929 documentary Man With a Movie Camera. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi
