Working his way up from the British radio scriptwriting pool, comedian Eric Sykes launched his film career with amusing supporting roles in such films as [[Feature~V86986~Charley Moon~charleymoon]] (1954) and [[Feature~V114040~Tommy the Toreador~tommythetoreador]] (1959). He was seen to good advantage in [[Feature~V116046~Watch Your Stern~watchyourstern]] (1961), [[Feature~V21990~Heavens Above~heavensabove]] (1963) and other comedies, and was allowed a few serious moments in the 1962 war film [[Feature~V96684~Invasion Quartet~invasionquartet]] (1964). Like most British comedians of the '60s, Sykes played cameos in such all-star laughspinners as [[Feature~V49617~Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines~thosemagnificentmenintheirflyingmachines]] (1965) and [[Feature~V49608~Those Daring Young Men in Their Jaunty Jalopies~thosedaringyoungmenintheirjauntyjalopies]] (1969).
