Catherine Hicks Biography

  • Profession: Actor
  • Born: Aug 6, 1951
  • Died: Jan 1, 0001

American actress Catherine Hicks was educated at St. Mary's Notre Dame and Cornell University; after several seasons of stage work, she launched a lengthy TV career. Hicks was seen regularly on the sitcom [[Feature~V3741~The Bad News Bears~thebadnewsbears]] (1978) and starred in the quasi-fantasy detective series Tucker's Witch (1979); she also portrayed Dr. Faith Coleridge on the ABC daytime drama [[Feature~V216969~Ryan's Hope~ryanshope[tvseries]]]. On two occasions, Catherine has had the uneviable task of recreating roles essayed by well-known actresses in earlier films. She played the [[Performer~P70970~Gene Tierney~genetierney]] role in Bill Murray's remake of [[Feature~V40413~The Razor's Edge~therazorsedge]] (1984), and the [[Performer~P55150~Barbara Parkins~barbaraparkins]] role in the made-for-TV [[Feature~V126610~Jacqueline Susann's Valley of the Dolls~jacquelinesusannsvalleyofthedolls]] (1990). In most films, Hicks has provided strong support to the name-above-the-title stars, notably in [[Feature~V37616~Peggy Sue Got Married~peggysuegotmarried]] (1986) [[Feature~V46552~Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home~startrekiv:thevoyagehome]] (1984) and [[Feature~V19219~Garbo Talks~garbotalks]] (1984). Leading roles came to Catherine Hicks in several films of the late '80s and early '90s: In [[Feature~V44231~She's Out of Control~shesoutofcontrol]] (1989), Catherine is Tony Danza's lady friend, and in [[Feature~V9230~Child's Play~childsplay]] (1988) she's the unlucky mom of the unluckier kid (Alex Vincent) who owns the malevolent "Chucky" doll. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
