Bill Carlisle Biography

  • Profession: Actor
  • Born: Dec 19, 1908
  • Died: Mar 17, 2003

Garnering the nickname Jumpin' Bill Carlisle for his electric on-stage performances, this rollicking country/comedy star made a name for himself in the Grand Ole Opry later in his career, in addition to making a handful of memorable film appearances. Born in Wakefield, KY, in December 1908, Carlisle teamed with brother Cliff to form The Carlisle Brothers, a popular duo in the 1930s. Quickly gaining a reputation as a wild man by leaping into the air and throwing things during his performances, it wasn't long before a series of novelty tunes turned Carlisle into a successful solo artist. Penning the classic "No Help Wanted" after being rejected from the Grand Ole Opry, Carlisle was seen in such features as 1966's [[Feature~V93452~The Gold Guitar~thegoldguitar]]. Elected into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2002, Carlisle died in Nashville on March 17, 2003. He was 94. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
